Bearing Witness

Curation        Exhibition Design         Writing         Pamphlet Design

Bearing Witness was a digital exhibition presented at The Racial Imaginary Institute’s Summer Symposium, co-curated by Sonya Imin and myself. The exhibition featured artists Ma Jianzheng, Camilla Dilshat, Medina Bazargali, and Yadykar Ibraimov, as well as the co-curators — the first intersectional cohort to speak out on the Uyghur crisis together. Taking inspiration from state propoganda, the poster and pamphlet design contrast idyllic portrayals of the region with the harsh realities unfolding within it.

China Visuals

Writing       Photo Research       Illustration

Critiquing past coverage is rarely a priority for legacy publications. But as someone impacted by the harmful narratives they’ve promoted, I saw it as essential. This piece breaks down the many stereotypes present in how media presents China. Written in collaboration with human rights lawyer, Ramona Li, we offer insights into how we can discuss the nation’s context from a lens of understanding.
